Armed robbery at vehicle dealership

A second-hand vehicle dealership became the victim of an armed robbery on Saturday.

According to police spokesman Capt Dawie Pretorius, the incident occurred at around 12:45, just before closing time for the dealership situated on Old Pretoria Road.

“Two suspects walked in and held up the staff at gunpoint. They made them lie on the floor and tied them up.”

He said the suspects took a laptop and keys of vehicles.

“Another joined them and they took three of the vehicles on the floor.”

The suspects fled the scene in two white Toyota Legends and one white Toyota double cab.

Pretorius added that no arrests have been made and police are still investigating the case.

“This is the first time in a long time that a vehicle dealership has been targeted in an armed robbery.”

A source stated that the vehicles were last seen at a filling station on the N4, after which they were seen leaving in the direction of Johannesburg.

TRAC spokesman Solange Soares Nicholson said the police were able to work with them to get the camera footage if needed at the toll gates.

Pretorius concluded that vehicle dealerships should be more cautious now when opening and closing their businesses.
