Letter: a residents’ suggestion to tackle the issue of illegal dumping in the city

An excessive amount of rubbish was also dumped in the stream running parallel to Ehmke Street in the park.

 Sydney Mboweni writes:

I have read the article in Nelspruit Post regarding illegal dumping. I agree with everyone who says it turns our beautiful city into a pigsty.

I therefore propose that the municipality raise funds from local businesses and install hidden cameras, or put CCTV in one of the patrolling companies’ cars that monitor the identified illegal sites.

I also request the municipality’s employees who collect rubbish in residential areas, not to turn a blind eye to bags that have been torn open by dogs. This is caused by leftovers and bones that are put in the bags.

When collection days come, these bags are placed at collection points outside gates and dogs jump fences to gain access to these bags. Because the workers ignore them, residents resort to dumping them illegally. This is very wrong. The municipality should also remove these bags.
