Life lost in head-on collision on the N4

One person has died and three more have been injured after the car they were travelling in collided with a Hilux bakkie on the N4 near Schoemanskloof late Monday afternoon.

“Paramedics discovered that the four men in the light vehicle had been injured, one of them critically,” said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman.

“They were treated and taken to hospital for further care,” he added. The critically injured man succumbed to his injuries and died on arrival at Rob Ferreira Hospital.

The driver of the bakkie escaped with no injuries. A case of culpable homicide has been opened.

Following the South African Weather Services’ recent warning concerning extreme weather, the spokesman for community safety, security and liaison, Joseph Mabuza warned drivers to be more cautious on the road.

“We urge drivers to adjust to weather conditions when driving on our roads,” he said.
