Well-known local doctor robbed at his practice

A dentist was attacked and robbed at his practice last Monday.

Dr Michael Strydom said his door bell rang at around 17:20. “My staff had already left,” he said. Strydom answered the door to an unknown male. “I opened the door slightly as I thought that he had a delivery and got the wrong address,” he said. The man then left and he closed the door.

“About five minutes later, the doorbell rang again and I saw a younger man at the door.”

He said he again only slightly opened the door. “The young man told me that he wanted to make an appointment. I told him to come back the following day.”

This was when two other men appeared. They forced the door open and pushed Strydom inside and held him down. “They took my laptop and cell phone. I did not resist and I think that is why they did not hurt me.”

The suspects then locked Strydom in the kitchen and left. He managed to kick the door open and push the panic button. Hi-Tech response manager, Mr Callum Mac Pherson, said they responded swiftly.

“We did a thorough search of the area for the suspects, unfortunately the time delay allowed them to get away.” Strydom said police had also reacted immediately. “The detectives visited me the following day,” he said. Mac Pherson said that anyone working late at their business premises should rather phone their security service before opening the door to anyone.

Police spokesman, Capt Dawie Pretorius, confirmed a case had been opened with the police and they were investigating the robbery.
