Do you want to become a scholar coach, helping your peers through counselling? Now you can! On November 8

The programme will assist schoolchildren to qualify as fully certified neurolinguistic programming (NLP) practitioners (basic).

They will be empowered to counsel fellow pupils with drug-abuse problems, do facial profiling and they will also receive training on emotional intelligence. “You gain your 50 hours you will need and be assisted under the mentorship of school psychologists or psychometrists as well as advanced certified NLP practitioners,” says Grobler.

Nelspruit Post’s sister publication, Lowvelder, is taking up armour in the war on drugs. In such a war, Lizelle says, young counsellors can mean a great deal to a community. She says the following about the role peer counselling.

“The reality of human nature is that people prefer to speak to a friend rather than a trained psychologist or counsellor, as this is where we feel safe.

“Facts are, that your children speak to their friends, get advise from friends. We are just offering to train these friends, and make a positive impact.

“Speaking to a trained friend might give your child that second chance he needed. Giving them a fighting chance”

“Being able to spot the effects of drug abuse and having the knowledge of how to approach these children, might make all the difference in the world. If we can save even one, we make a difference!”

The one-hour workshop, to be attended by pupils and their parents or guardians, will be held at the Dream South Business Lounge at 24 Jerepico Street at 17:30. RSVP before November 6.
